The Classics
So last week I watched Midnight in Paris. A film where a struggling writer, who's caught up doing less fulfilling work rather than pursuing his dream of writing a novel, goes to Paris with his fiance and her parents. He wanders the streets of Paris at midnight and becomes acquaintances with the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Dali, Pablo Picasso, and Gertrude Stein. I really enjoyed this film. And it's got me back to reading some classics that really seem to capture human emotion and relationships so completely. So I'm back to reading Hemingway's short stories and I'm also going to read Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. I feel an emotional connection to these writers more than anything I've read before.
"...How when he thought he saw her outside the Regence one time it made him go all faint and sick inside... How everyone he slept with had only made him miss her more." The Snows of Kilimanjaro - Ernest Hemingway.
I wish I didn't know exactly what that feeling was, but Hemingway captures that emotion perfectly. But I know it's just a matter of time before I meet the right person that takes away all these misgivings I have. Maybe I know her now and we haven't grown close enough, or maybe I'll bump into her tomorrow. I welcome that revelation when it comes.

I've been gone for some time, I had an amazing summer. I might get back to that. I'm working part time and going to school, so I don't have much as much spare time as I'd like (who doesn't want more?). I'm working out, thinking of getting a tattoo, and gearing up(hardware) for Battlefield 3 next month! So I've got plenty to share and I'll return soon with more!

Patio Season
Last night was the first night to Party on the Patio! Of course it was rainy and today it's freezing, haha. So I'm talking about outdoor bars. A local favorite scene of mine is the West End bar (formerly On The Rocks), they have a patio and bar on the roof, and it's a great place to spend the summer nights drinking and talking with friends. I'll be glad when it warms up again and we can get back to having a good time! Looks like we'll have to put up with the indoor bars for another weekend, it's weird how cold it is for this time of year. I think I might have a few more entries on the venues of Dickson Street, it's a great place to be make friends and have a blast.

Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 is a FPS game slated to come out Q4 of 2011. The new graphics engine, Frostbite 2.0, that it's built on looks amazing. This will be an obvious upgrade to the high def graphics, game physics, rendering, and lighting currently on the market. It is releasing on PC, Xbox360, and PS3. I'm up in there air on where I'll go for the 360 or PC version. Probably 360 since I'd need to upgrade my graphics card for the computer. Anyways you can see for yourself below (actual pre-alpha game play footage!) Watch the trailer here, BF3, Bad Part of Town

Moving Next Month
It's amazing how much junk can get piled up in 2 years. The lease on my house is up in May and I'll be finding somewhere else to stay. The house is nice, but honestly it's just too damn expensive, I'd be fine living in somewhere much cheaper and it makes sense that I should try to do so. Looking for a new residence is pretty exciting, I'm enjoying the feeling of uncertainty, but I'll probably get more nervous about it over the next few weeks haha.
So I won't miss the house much, but it also means I'll be breaking up with my buddy Jay. We've been roomies for 3 years, and he honestly is one of my best friends. He can be a little a weird, but then again I'm weird. We have fun just sitting around joking and watching movies. It's gonna be weird having a new roommate in a few months. On that note, I have no idea who that might be, so another thing to be anxious about, but I guess we'll just see happens. I just kinda feel like winging it, and what happens happens. I've got an apartment scoped out and will apply as soon as I can maybe snag a roommate.
Packing my things up will be a bitch and I have no idea where I'll put it all in the process of moving. I acquired most of my furniture on the stipulation that I never bring it back haha.

Sphere by Michael Crichton
I just finished reading this one last weekend, I read it 5-6 years ago when I was a huge bookworm before school, computers, music, and athletics dominated my daily agenda. I had forgotten most of it and enjoyed reading it again while trying to return to my bookwormish roots.
Sphere is a suspense filled story about a strange space craft being found on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The U.S. Navy sends down a civilian panel of experts to investigate the craft and search for signs of the craft's origins and a possible link to extraterrestrials. On board the ship, the group finds a strange sphere that is most certainly alien. The investigation leads to strange phenomenon happening at the bottom of the ocean and the team must figure out what is happening before they are possibly destroyed. I'd recommend this book to any suspense, sci-fi, or tech junkie.
Michael Crichton is one of my favorite authors, and it's terrible that he has already passed. I wish he could have written for many more years, because every book of his that I read I struggle to put down without completing it.

How young is too young?
I've been texting and talking to this girl that is 18 years old... I'm 22... Is that wrong? Sometimes I think I'm an idiot hahaha. Maybe I'm wasting my time, but I'm not doing anything wrong by talking to her. I text with a few of my friends that are girls, but it's usually just a friendly hello, what are your plans tonight, ok I might see you out later. She actually gave me her number and texts me all the time. I'm not even really sure where she stands or what she wants. I'm just being friendly and letting her work things out as she wants. I think she's just lonely from a recent break-up, I know how that goes. I have sympathy for her, she's a sweet girl who deserves to be treated right. She's young though and I don't know her well enough to judge her intentions or emotions, I'm just going with the flow. I really don't have any romantic interests right now, so why not talk to her? I try not to initiate conversation too much simply because I don't want to be the older dude, blowing up a girl's phone. She's funny though and honestly I enjoy chatting with her. Still, every once in awhile I get a feeling that I'm being a fool, maybe we both are. It's a day for fools anyway haha.
Threat Level Midnight
Threat Level Midnight gets a D- by this movie critic. Michael Scarn shines as a true lead role should in a spy thriller. The surrounding cast falls short however for Michael Scott's writing, directing, producing debut.
Really I just wanted to profess my love for the Office, I've got every season on DVD, and am thoroughly enjoying this season's performances as Michael Scott(Steve Carrel) prepares to depart. I have been an avid fan of the show for several years. I love the entire cast and think the show has had a wildly successful run in today's environment of reality TV and short-lived series. I certainly think that the cast is strong enough for the Office to continue after Carrel's departure. Will Ferrel also looks to have a refreshing role as Scott's replacement. Hopefully Ferrel will remain to do several more shows. If the show does end after this season, then I'll say it certainly went out with a bang and will always be remembered fondly as a great series by me.

A Farewell to Arms
I read A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway a few months ago. It was my first book to read outside of school texts for sometime. I thoroughly enjoyed Hemingway's writing style of short, but provoking syntax. The story is about an American ambulance driver who is in Southern Europe for World War I. He experiences the war first hand, falls in love with an English nurse, and deserts his post as he and his lover flee. It was a great read that I had a hard time putting down. The conclusion was shocking, but I won't say anymore of that so as not to spoil the surprise. I would recommend this to everyone that enjoys well written literature. I will definitely be reading more Hemingway in the future.
The Pacific
So I just finished the DVD set of the HBO miniseries, The Pacific. I've been looking forward to this one for awhile, as I was a huge fan of Band of Brothers. The Pacific covers the marines fighting in the South Pacific. The locations range from Guadalcanal to Iwo Jima to Okinawa. As well as an episode depicting leave and training in Australia. The miniseries differs with Band of Brothers in that it seems to drift in the characters it follows and also focuses much more on the psychological tribulations endured by the marines fighting a stubborn unrelenting enemy in the hot fetid environs of the pacific tropics. You feel apathetic for the marines as they endure horrors of the war and then on leave or after the fighting is over have to try to outlive the horrors they remember. The marines were fighting in the Pacific in 41'. That's a full 3 years before the U.S. entered into the European theater, the fighting was drawn out, toilsome, and costly. Watching this show, I feel that it did about as good as TV series can do in depicting the actions of the war in the Pacific. I will gladly keep this in my collection right up there with Band of Brothers.

Breckenridge Spring Break 2011
This was my second year in row to Breck with my dad, brother, and uncle, I had a blast. We left at 5 a.m. in the morning and by the time I woke up at noon we were halfway there. One thing that I didn't realize is how long it took to get through Kansas going East to West... something like 10 hours.
So, we pull up to the condo we have rented. Next door there are a group of sorority girls unpacking their car. They yell to me as I step out of the car painfully, "Hey, we should be friends!" Of course, I couldn't agree more... So half an hour later I'm walking back from the ski rental shop and the girls are walking by. My dad and brother are about a minute behind me, so I know I need to talk quickly. Not that I'm ashamed of my dad or brother, but I realize that this conversation is huge as far as my week goes, and I can't afford to stumble through awkwardly with the "howdy, where are y'all from?" lines that would come out if they were there. So one girls says hello and mentions they are going to the rent skis too. I say hello, and mention how excited I am to be on spring break and how cool it is to have neighbors my age as I'm staying with family. At this point I have about 30 seconds... </flashback>From the previous year I know how hard it is bump into people multiple times, I talked to a girl on the lift and thought I'd see her out that night or the next as we both said would be doing. I never saw her again and was mad at myself for not getting a number</flashback_off>.... So I talk quickly to the girl who was smiling the most and seemed the most friendly, I gave her my number and told her to text me if they were going out and wanted some company. My dad and brother then walk up and "howdy, where are yall from?"s commenced flawlessly. They were from Texas Tech, as I had known as soon as I read their sorority t-shirts when they had walked up. From there it was all downhill, I went out for drinks with them a few times and spent alot of time in the hot tub. The week was fun and playful, and nothing too serious happened. It was a great spring break with family and friends.
Now we can talk about skiing, it snowed on our second day there, we had 3-5" of powder and it was great. I improved quite a bit and was comfortably doing blacks and a few diamonds. The air is amazing, it gives you a light headedness and quickness of breath that reminds you about the simple pleasures of living and breathing. I love the adrenaline rush that you get when you test your limits.

Proposed Purpose
Why did I start this? I'm not sure... I'm bored on the Sunday after Spring Break. I want to express myself in place where I don't have to shove it down anyone else's throat. This blog is for me, anyone is free to read it, but it will not have a particular topic as of right now. Just my rambling thoughts. I haven't written anything in quite some time, 3 or 4 years. So this sounds like a fun way to sharpen up and refine my thinking. I've got a lot on my mind: school, play, girls, crazy friends, a combination of the former two, my travels, dreams, opinions, disappointments, music, movies, games. I think this is completely random and so it will probably remain.
